Aleksandra's top picks

Taste Roman classics — in a plant-based version: Want to taste Rome without compromising your veggie soul? Rifugio Romano serves Roman classics in a fully plant-based version. Think carbonara, amatriciana, cacio e pepe and traditional desserts but vegan.
– Rifugio romano
via Volturno, 39-41

Green-and-artsy escape in Trastevere: Head to the Botanical Garden of Rome, a peaceful green hideaway tucked between Trastevere and Gianicolo. Then, just around the corner, step into Galleria Corsini, a beautiful historic palace and art collection that feels far from the usual tourist rush.
– Orto botanico
Largo Cristina di Svezia, 23
– Galleria Corsini
Via della Lungara, 10

Go veggie in Colli Albani — then meet the local bunnies: For a relaxed vegetarian meal outside the usual tourist routes, head to Misticanza in the Colli Albani/Furio Camillo area. Right nearby, you’ll find the Caffarella Park, one of Rome’s largest green areas. It’s perfect for a walk, a breath of fresh air, and yes, you may even spot free-roaming rabbits along the way.
– Misticanza
Via Cesare Baronio, 179

Treat yourself to vegan pastries at Libera: Still in the Furio Camillo area, Libera is a new vegan pastry shop and café — ideal for breakfast, a sweet break or a post-walk reward. Expect plant-based pastries, coffee and a cosy stop that proves vegan treats can be just as indulgent as the traditional ones.
– Libera pasticceria
Via Luigi Tosti, 54

Leonardo's top picks

Supplì, the king of Roman snacks: It is not a restaurant. It is a small pizza shop but they are specialized in supplì. I highly recommend it.
– Supplì Roma
Via di S. Francesco a Ripa, 137

Gelato anyone? For me, this is the best gelato you can find. And you are in the hearth of Trastevere.
– Otaleg Trastevere
Via di S. Cosimato, 14a

Pasta all’amatriciana: One of the Roman classic pastas and to me, this trattoria makes the best amatriciana in Rome. No view, not a fancy place. Just great food.
– Trattoria Pennestri
Via Giovanni da Empoli, 5

Claudia's top picks

Sunset at Parco degli Acquedotti: Ancient Roman aqueducts, wide open fields, orange skies, and the kind of light that makes everyone look like they’re in an indie movie. For the extra brave, climb onto the aqueducts for a more original experience. Not exactly “official tour guide approved,” but definitely “main character energy” approved. 🙂

Cinema in Piazza: During summer, Cinema in Piazza in Piazza di San Cosimato is one of the best ways to spend an evening in Rome. Think open-air cinema, international films in original language, and a super relaxed neighborhood vibe.
Pro tip: if you actually want to sit comfortably, bring a portable stool.

The whispering wall trick: There’s a fun little “sound trick” in Rome where you can hear someone speaking from the other side of a square without shouting like a confused tourist. It works thanks to the concave shape of one of the large curved walls, which carries the sound along the surface.
Go to the hemicycle opposite the Pincio terrace, near the side of the Fontana del Nettuno / Ferdinando di Savoia area.
Here’s how to do it: one person stands in the exact center of the curved wall, while the other goes to the far end, near the corner. Both of you should face the wall and speak toward it – even in a low voice.
If you do it right, your voice travels along the curve and reaches the other person super clearly, even from 50 to 100 meters away. Basically: ancient Roman FaceTime, no Wi-Fi needed.

Fulvio's top picks

A cute restaurant: Great atmosphere and traditional food “with a twist”. Make sure you reserve before going! A walk in the Garbatella area, where the restaurant is located, and an aperitivo before dinner are a must.
– Ristoro degli angeli
Via Luigi Orlando, 2

Irish pubs: Fancy a good pint? Here’s a list of proper traditional Irish pubs. That’s because a lot of Irish moved to Rome in the 90’s. This is their legacy, I guess.
– The fiddler’s elbow
Via dell’Olmata, 43
– The druid’s den
Via di San Martino ai Monti, 28
– Finnegan
Via Leonina, 66
– Shamrock
Via del Colosseo, 1c

Record stores: Got time for some digging? Here’s a list of my favourite spots to get dusty hands.
– Radiation records
Via Romanello da Forlì, 14
– Il mangiadischi
Via Luciano Manara, 22
– Elastick rock
Viale dei Quattro Venti, 237/239
